Usable offcuts from existing workshops became the starting material.
From workshop leftovers to a child's first build.

At Buurman Antwerpen, where I volunteered during my master research, leftover wood from adult workshops suggested a new question: could it become something children would enjoy building? Recup Racecar grew from that question.
Usable offcuts from existing workshops became the starting material.
Simple shapes made the car easier to assemble.
Pre-cut parts were ready for children to collect.
An illustrated guide led the build step by step.
Children could personalise their cars and race them.

Children collect the parts, assemble a car and give it their own character. Having something to play with at the end gives every step a purpose.
Alongside the car came a material list, an assembly guide and a workshop sequence. Together they turn recovered wood into an activity children can take part in.

The parts needed for each build.

Children do the making, one step at a time.
Recup Racecar brought together material reuse, product design and a hands-on workshop. Small in scale, but complete as an experience.
